March Wrap

I wanted to start a monthly summary of changes for those of you who prefer not to read tons of tiny changes in the patch notes.  There were 8 patches this month which is quite a lot! Here are 10 things implemented in March that I am most proud of (in order of implementation).

  • I redid the riding UI and removed the joystick. To do this I had to implement keyboard controls for versade and travers. The joystick was disproportionately annoying to critics of the game who thought Tobiano is just a recycled mobile game. Which it totally is. It doesn’t mean I don’t plan to improve those things though!
    • I added horse training speed, a setting that lets you control how long training horses takes. Some players like to take their time training, others have 60 horses to get through.  Training speed changes how many focus your horses uses up for each reinforce, so the cake is the same size, you just take a bigger or smaller piece according to your preference.
    • Tackless riding was added. Now tier 3 horses can be ridden without a saddle and tier 5 horses can be ridden without a bridle.
    • Two new NPCs have joined the show, Jenna and Connor who both have custom animations and their special clothes will be added to the player store later on.
    • I added fullscreen mode, this was not a priority for me personally but a lot of players were asking for this feature on the discord. Definitely join if you want your voice heard!
    • Instead of the notebook controlling all quests, NPCs now live in the world and give out quests. This change was absolutely massive but gives the game more RPG vibes. I’m only done with chapter 2 though, which shows what a huge change this was.
    • I added tips in the quest log so users can find questgivers, a map will be added to make this even easier.
    • Users can now delete save games from the launch screen
    • A new male playable character has been created and will be added to the game later on. This was a really complicated job because playable characters are much more complex than NPCs.
    • Absolutely tons of small UI fixes and bugs squashed!
