July Updates

A lot has happened this month! Here are the biggest updates:

Added horse highlights!
This was a very exciting update since I first started working on it two years ago. That time, I couldn’t make it work, but after a lot of trial and error it finally clicked. Part of what makes this exciting is that the game is starting to round out so I can fine tune these small but important details.

New saddle pads and bandages
I added 33 new saddle pads with matching bandages, a big upgrade to the original set of 20. There are more coming, but first more leather tack is being added.

More horse animations
Horse idle animations are a big part of what makes horses feel alive in Tobiano. There are more updates coming here too, where animations will reflect personality in a big way.

Auto feed plans
When you have a stable of 80 horses, making feed plans can feel like a chore. At the end of chapter 3, players can unlock automatic feed plans and learn about how feed planning works in real life. Horses also get a bonus for good feed plans now!

New horse management window
By popular demand this now shows more horses so you get a better overview of your stable. The scroll bars are also a bit more sensitive across the game, improving navigation.

Increased retirement age
Horses now hang around a little longer after their riding days are over, as requested by players on the Tobiano Discord

Improved visuals and animations of the protagonist
The player model was looking a bit cursed, but after a long-needed revision it is looking a bit less terrifying. There are more updates coming here, including a masculine body type planned for release in the first patch of August.

Added more dressage stuff
Sitting trot and extended gaits were the last update for the month, allowing players to work on more classic dressage exercises. The extended canter and trot require some collection and training to get right, just like in real life.

The theme for this month has been game polish and player input, which makes me so happy. Next month will see more improvements to horses, more tack, better game world (SHEEP!) and storyline progression. Thanks for being here!
